Bremont’s Lunar Adventure: Discover the New Supernova Chronograph and Altitude Chronograph Pulsograph
Bremont is set to make history later this year — not the brand, but one of its watches will journey to the Moon on a mission never to return. At this year’s Watches and Wonders, Bremont unveiled two exceptional chronographs that inhabit different realms of watchmaking. First up is the Altitude Chronograph Pulsograph Valjoux 23, a classic pilot’s watch that highlights traditional craftsmanship. On the other hand, the new Supernova Chronograph is designed for the stars. This summer, one special Supernova will land on the Moon, where it will run silently until its last tick, resting indefinitely on the lunar south pole. Intrigued? Let’s explore these innovative timepieces in more detail.
Takeoff: The Altitude Chronograph Pulsograph Valjoux 23
Let’s begin our journey with the Bremont Altitude Chronograph Pulsograph Valjoux 23. This exquisite timepiece is a limited edition of just 40 pieces, crafted with a lightweight titanium case that defines Bremont’s signature three-part Trip-Tick design. With a 42mm diameter, a lug-to-lug measurement of 49.62mm, and a thickness of 12.52mm, this watch is as functional as it is stylish. Notably, it boasts a brushed finish and a box-style sapphire crystal, combined with impressive water resistance of up to 100 meters, making it perfect for piloting both in the air and underwater.
The dial features a vintage-inspired salmon color paired with a multi-textured surface, while applied numerals in black gold with luminous accents ensure easy readability. The classic twin-counter layout includes a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a running seconds counter at 9 o’clock with a distinctive triple-tipped propeller hand. A pulsometer scale around the dial’s edge nods to historical medical chronographs, adding a surprising touch of uniqueness to this pilot’s watch.
The Beauty Within: NOS Movement
Looking through the exhibition case back reveals the hand-wound Valjoux 23 movement, sourced as new old stock and reimagined in collaboration with Chronode. This caliber operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and boasts an impressive 48-hour power reserve. Its beautifully finished surfaces offer a visual delight that you’ll want to showcase. While the contrasting elements of the watch create a conversation between vintage and contemporary styles, the synergy might not align perfectly between the dial and movement’s aesthetics — but that only adds to its charm.
This stunning timepiece is fitted with a 22mm brown nubuck leather strap featuring quick-release spring bars. Remember, there are only 40 pieces available globally, retailing for US$33,967 / £24,950.
Ready for Launch: The Supernova Chronograph
As Bremont pioneers timepieces for land, sea, and air, they now venture into space. The entirely new Supernova Chronograph is a 41mm integrated-bracelet sports watch crafted from 904L stainless steel. It features a black ceramic bezel designed with a unique decahedral geometric pattern, and its integrated steel bracelet beautifully complements its sleek case.
The design draws inspiration from the sharp, angular forms of spacecraft architecture, enhanced by a blend of brushed and polished surfaces. The dial boasts a layered construction with a perforated black galvanic grid resting over a luminous Super-LumiNova base, effectively mirroring the geometries of spacecraft solar arrays. This high-contrast dial not only looks stunning but ensures legibility in low-light conditions, a crucial feature for any space traveler.
The chronograph layout incorporates a date display, ensuring its wearer never loses track of time away from Earth.
While you might expect a hand-wound movement in a space watch, Bremont has chosen the robust BC77 automatic movement. This chronometer-rated caliber operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides around 62 hours of power reserve — a feature visible through the exhibition case back.
Mission to the Moon
The Supernova Chronograph is now an integral component of the FLIP rover’s chassis and is gearing up for an extraordinary journey. This special timepiece will be part of Astrolab’s FLIP (FLEX Lunar Innovation Platform) rover and will accompany the mission slated to launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in 2026. Once it reaches the lunar surface, the rover will explore the extreme environment of the Nobile region near the lunar south pole, where temperatures can fluctuate dramatically.
Mounted within the rover, the Supernova Chronograph will face the harsh realities of space for an indefinite period. The watch will wind as the rover journeys across the Moon’s surface, ticking for about 62 hours before coming to a standstill. Once there, it will never return.
Back here on Earth, the Bremont Supernova Chronograph is priced at US$8,849 / £6,950, while the model with the steel bracelet retails for US$9,802 / £7,200.
