Panerai has developed a proprietary alloy called Afniotech (derived from afnio, which means “hafnium” in Italian), with hafnium making up about 95% of the case. Given its chemical similarities to zirconium, extracting hafnium is a significant challenge in modern metallurgy. Machining this precious material into a finely finished Swiss case requires extraordinary precision, limiting production to just 35 exclusive pieces. Plus, Panerai has rated this Submersible for water resistance up to 1,000 meters, with each case tested to 25% beyond that depth.

This watch is undeniably commanding with a diameter of 47mm and a thickness of 18.5mm, offering a bold wrist presence that reinforces its tactical utility. The design elements include a rifle-scope-style subsidiary seconds display at 9 o’clock, a date window at 3, and semi-skeletonized sword hands for a stylish touch. The bezel features squared knurling for a secure grip, and the entire case sports a sandblasted finish. Afniotech emits a striking silvery-blue tone, setting it apart from conventional steel or titanium. The dial reflects this unique character with a grainy gradient texture, transitioning from black to light gray at its center.
